UF Online Economics Master’s adds new Spring 2027 start

The University of Florida’s online Master of Arts in Economics with a concentration in Econometric and Data Analysis program has added a new start term to create more opportunities for students to advance their skills on their schedule.

The spring application deadline is Nov. 15, 2026, and classes begin Jan. 11, 2027. Applications are also open for Fall 2027.

“This new program reaches students who cannot step back from their career or relocate to a college town,” said Program Director Dr. Thomas Knight. “We are reaching working professionals from all over the state and even country. They are able to then level up at work with newly acquired data and econometric skills.”

Students who start the program in the spring will follow the same three-semester curriculum schedule and can graduate in December 2027. The program is asynchronous and designed for working professionals. There are no set class times, and students have 24/7 access to courses, allowing them to learn on their schedule.

UF’s online Economics master’s program welcomed its first cohort of students in Fall 2025 and celebrated its first graduates in August 2026. The inaugural cohort praised the program’s flexibility, high-quality courses, and instructors.

“The professors, all of them, were fabulous. If you had a question, they were always an email or a phone call away. I was really, really pleased with the quality of the program,” said graduate and Navy veteran Russ Moore.

All courses in the online Economics graduate program are taught by the same distinguished UF faculty who teach in-person students. Students earn the same University of Florida degree – transcripts and diplomas do not indicate that the degree was earned online. Students are never required to come to campus but are invited to attend an annual in-person event and can walk at graduation.

Prospective students interested in learning more are invited to attend a virtual information session to hear directly from Knight and participate in a live Q&A. Admissions Support specialists are also available to provide personalized support and guidance through the application process by appointment, email or phone.

“I genuinely love connecting with our prospective students,” Knight said. “It is exciting to learn about their different professional backgrounds and discuss how a graduate degree can elevate their career.”

Applications are reviewed as they are received, so prospective students are encouraged to apply soon to receive an admissions decision before the holiday season.
